With a background in fashion design, Mia’s career crossed over into costumes in 1993. As a member of the Costume Designers Guild, she has designed costumes for film, TV and print. A world traveler, Mia draws inspiration from a multitude of sources. Her ability to draw inspiration from different styles, cultures and eras has resulted in some very unique designs.
Mia's extensive experience in production enables her to quickly work through the creative process. Since speed is often a requirement in the entertainment business, this skill is crucial to the success of a project. Mia's ability to go from concept to a selection of visual designs is outstanding. She works closely with the client and/or director to design costumes that complete an artistic vision. She understands that a truly great costume design will enhance the overall concept and character. Mia shops off the rack, rents, and has the great advantage to construct costumes in her shop. Her in depth knowledge of costume construction contributes greatly to the quality of the finished product.
For the feature film Farmhouse, Mia designed futuristic demon costumes with period inspiration, resulting in a rich, original look. When called to design a look for Cloris Leachman to promote PETA, Mia created a structured gown made of purple cabbage and kale. The costumes in Discovery Channel's The Colony are an eclectic blend of purchased and used clothing, distressed to achieve a disaster stricken look.
Mia continues to seek projects that go beyond the average and push creative boundaries.
